Garden News & Stories
In this section we include News about the garden and Stories from our local volunteers about what the Walled Garden means to them and what they enjoy about helping in the garden.

April - a "model month"
April's gardening group saw us working along side a very glamorous group of models and lots of professional photographers. It made the bindweed digging out much more bearable! The Walled Garden was an ideal location for them to show their talents - all building their portfolios. We were delighted to welcome them all to the garden - who knows we may get featured somewhere! The fragrant laburnum was also uncovered from its overpowering by the clematis, pus lots of tidying up w

Spring has sprung!
Pruning of roses was the key task in March. George, our retired head gardener, was able to give us clear guidance on the pruning of roses. It's surprising how much needs to be cut back, looking for outward facing buds and giving space to the center of the rose bush. Plus we did weeding of the rose beds. Bulb bonanza!
Our brilliant volunteers made light work of planting over 200 bulbs at our November session. It was a beautiful day for gardening and the bulbs will be ready for the spring. We planted the bulbs mainly in the rose beds and on the beds at the entrance to the walled garden. We also replenished the lavenders in the center of the Walled Garden and tidied the plants. There is still plenty of garden colour from pinks to yellows, to orange, purple and white alongside sliver seed an

Lots to do at our November session!
We're going to be busy on 1st November. We have masses of daffodil bulbs to plant ready for the spring. Plus we're replacing the woody lavenders and some sad hebes. The weather looks good and warm - bring your watering cans! George, the head gardener at Ravenscourt Park for over 40 years, is now one of our volunteers and is always on hand to give advice and answer questions.

Welcome to new volunteers over last few months!
We've had plenty of new volunteers over the last months - sometimes reaching groups of 15 or more and our newest volunteer aged just 2 years old ! We're always keen to welcome local residents who want to support our walled garden, meet new people, get some exercise through our digging and feel inspired by the impact of a few hours of working together to maintain a peaceful and beautiful oasis in west London.
